The Creative Lab Academy is an innovative global education provider run by Jon Goode and Sam Gibson that trains, equips, up-skills and mentors musicians and creatives within the local church, worldwide
All our training, teaching and expertise in face to face and online delivery enables us to write and develop bespoke curriculum in Worship Music and the Creative industries for students from all walks of life, all abilities and from all countries. Our primary focus is Worship Music and Creative students attending or serving in local churches in developing countries that are not in a position to access highly specialised education.
We help students explore and develop their artistic and creative talents for personal, ministerial, entrepreneurial and academic gain. All courses are bespoke and reflect the values and expectations of industry practice and mainstream education as we seek to prepare students to enrich and enhance worship through Music and the creative Arts in the local church whilst being prepared to access to the global creative sector. The Creative Lab exists to train, equip and upskill a generation of Worship leaders, musicians and Creative industry practitioners
All our tutors are highly qualified, highly skilled professional industry practitioners within the music and creative industries with teaching experience from all aspects of education (School's, Further education, Higher education, Private tuition).
Jon Goode - Bass Coordinator / Director of the Creative Lab Academy
Bass player (& sometimes Keys player!), composer / writer with various artists in the UK and beyond. Recent playing includes tours and gigs in Germany, UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uganda, UAE and not so long ago, the States. Recent credits include playing / touring with UK Number one selling artist Sian Evans (of Kosheen) and BBC radio favourites Zervas and Pepper. He has a publishing contract, has been previously signed to Elevation records, has recently played on national and international TV and radio stations and has played at festivals, stadiums / arenas in the UK, Europe and beyond and lives in the UK. Jon heads up our Bass Courses and is a Director of the Creative Lab Academy.
Sam Gibson - Director of the Creative Lab Academy
Professional Mix Engineer who has worked for various worship artists. Sam's work features on: Hillsong Worship, Elevation Worship, ICF Worship, Bright City, Bethany Worship, Lou Fellinghman, ICF Worship, Life Worship, Ben Canelon,Bryan and Katie Torwalt, Chris Tomlin, Soul Survivor, Jesus Culture, Freedom Church, JPCC, Tim Hughes, Tom Smith, Worship Central, Rend Collective, Newspring Worship, Kim and Skyler Smith, Gateway Worship, Delirious? To name a few. He lives in the UK but is a staunch New Zealander. Sam is a Director of the Creative Lab Academy.
Damian Pugh - Kit Coordinator
Kit (& percussion player!) from the UK. Recent playing includes tours and gigs in Croatia, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Barcelona and Dubai. Recent credits include playing for a variety of international worship artists (Darlene Zschech, Ruby Turner, Brian Johnson) and has performed at numerous worship conferences, on numerous albums and on many national and international TV and radio stations. He has been previously signed to Elevation records, performed with renowned orchestras and continues to ply his trade as a session drummer. Damian heads up our Kit courses.
Mark Bovee - Keys Coordinator
Mark T. Bovee has over 30 years of experience in the music industry as a keyboard player, arranger, orchestrator, producer, worship leader, music engraver and teacher. He received his master's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 1992. Mark travels to Nashville several times a year to produce projects. Mark is comfortable in all styles of music, having taken classical and jazz lessons as well as playing in rock, jazz, and country groups. Mark's heart is to encourage and equip musicians towards excellence and to pastor and prepare them for ministry as authentic and effective worship leaders. He and his wife Christi own and operate the Pikes Peak Arts Academy in their town, Woodland Park, CO.
Gary Trobee - Worship Coordinator
Singer, Songwriter, Pastor, Worship instructor, Author and founder of Trobee Ministries based in Colorado Springs. Gary is a graduate of Hillsong International Leadership College Australia and spends his time coaching and consulting churches and ministry leader to achieve equipping and empowering leaders. His ministerial experience of over 30 years has led him to plant church, build church, serve in church and lead worship in a variety of contexts. Gary heads up our Worship & ministerial courses.
Marcia Alverson - Vocal Coordinator
Vocal & Piano Coach, Worship leader, Published Songwriter, Author, Assistant Director of Charis Bible College and founder of Hqy2Zion Music based in Colorado Springs. Marcia is a graduate of The King's University in California and has served local church for many years as an instructor, choir / vocals director and an international itinerate worship leaver. Marcia is a published songwriter and travels as a vocalist within the USA, Japan, France, UK, Germany, Canada, Barbados, Truks & Caicos. Marcia heads up our Vocal courses.
Professor Paul Carr - Theory Coordinator
Paul Carr is professor in Popular Music Analysis at the University of South Wales residing in the UK. His research interests focus on the areas of musicology, widening access, the music industry and pedagogical frameworks for music related education. He is also an experienced performing musician, having toured and recorded with artists as diverse as The James Taylor Quartet and ex Miles Davis saxophonist Bob Berg. His most recent publications include an edited collection on Frank Zappa (2014), two chapters in Oxford Handbook of Music and Virtuality (2016) and a monograph on Sting (2017). He is currently working on a popular music nostalgia project in Merthyr Tydfil, with an exhibition and symposiium haven recently taking place in January 2018. He also works as a forensic musicologist/expert witness on a consultancy basis. Recent activity includes work for Warner Chappell and Universal Music on copyright infringement cases (including a major West End Show and a number of international recording artist recordings). He also acts as a music education consultant - recently advising on the role of popular music in the new A Level curriculum. Paul heads up our Harmony and Theory courses.
Chris Carpenter - Guitar Coordinator
Starting a professional career at the tender age 16 and graduating from the Royal welsh college of music and drama a few years later, Christian is a vastly experienced performer and educator. His performance career has taken him all over the Globe, touring with shows like abba mania, chess and little shop of horrors (USA, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Luxemburg, France to name a few). As well as his international career, Christian also works extensively in the UK with many many musical theatre tours as well as a busy TV career, working regularly for the BBC, ITV, S4C and Sky. He has performed with a wide range of stars from Michael Ball and the national orchestra of Wales to pop acts like Gareth Gates and Jimmy Osmond. As well as Christians very busy performing career he also has a passion for music education and head up "The Music Academy" at Neath Port Talbot College, and has been teaching for over 20 years now. Chris heads up our Guitar courses.
